New ‘OO’ Gauge Layout

28’0 X 12’0

Many years ago the Club was involved in building a layout for a small village museum at Kilmaurs, which had lost its station and it was decided to recreate it in miniature in the museum. . A very good modeller and member of the Kilmarnock Club, the late Dick Brown, offered to make the necessary buildings.

The layout was built and run in the museum for some years until the shortage of Local Authority funds saw the eventual closure of the museum. The buildings, fortunately still in good shape, were handed back to the Club and have been in store for a few years now.

At one time Kilmarnock and Kilmaurs were on the G & SWR main line to Carlisle but a very myopic decision was taken to single the line between Kilmarnock and Barrhead. This involved closing some stations including Kilmaurs, which has since been re-opened, albeit with a Bus Shelter as a station building but the silly single track remains.  The  top Section of the new layout will be based around Kilmaurs Station at various times. It will also have a modern guise showing what might have happened if the silly decision to single the track had not been taken.

The bottom section will consist of 4 continuous tracks running round the layout.
